The current trend seems to be moving ERP technology away from industrial and factory management. The rise of production-specific MES products may seem like a specific commitment to Industry 4.0, but from our point of view, it distances the real need of small and medium-sized industrial companies, which require complete integration of management data. Working on separate technology platforms for administrative and production management is a fundamental mistake. The problem isn't the MES; the problem is that an ERP that must manage all of the company's circuits doesn't naturally consider the factory and its digitalization as a part of its own. An ERP without an MES isn't an ERP.
